English

Deep eutectic solvents are a new class of ionic liquids that are produced by forming hydrogen bonds between hydrogen bond donors and acceptors. These green and stable solvents are usually prepared by heating the components at a gentle temperature and stirring until a clear and homogeneous liquid appears. Due to the availability of components of these solvents, low toxicity, biodegradability, recyclability, easy preparation and the ability to adjust physical/chemical properties, they have many applications in different fields. Low vapor pressure and high purity has made these solvents a suitable alternative to common organic solvents in extraction processes. Since one of the concerns of green chemistry is the use of environmentally friendly solvents in laboratory works, especially in the extraction processes, therefore, in this review article, firstly, the preparation methods and physical/chemical properties of deep eutectic solvents are discussed, and then the application of these solvents are discussed in liquid and solid phase microextractions.
