Refrigerants, as key components in many energy-related processes and associated industries, play an important role in the performance of heat transfer and fluid flow systems. In this study, a simple and generalizable model is proposed for calculating the viscosity of a wide range of pure refrigerants. In addition, to evaluate the performance of the proposed model, the Vogel model, as one of the most well-known viscosity prediction models, was combined with the group contribution method and subsequently used for comparison. In this regard, 22 different refrigerants with a total of 2224 experimental viscosity data points were employed for model development and validation. The temperature and pressure ranges of the studied refrigerants were 100 to 385 K and 0.623 to 100.1 MPa, respectively. The input parameters of the proposed model include only the chemical structure, temperature, and critical pressure of the refrigerants. The results showed that the overall AARD% values over the entire studied pressure range for the proposed model and the Vogel model were 4.28% and 6.64%, respectively. Furthermore, both models showed very good agreement with the viscosity trends as a function of temperature and pressure.
